Presales Questions

Post by afugill »

Hello. I think that the component may be just what I need, but just a couple of questions if I may.

My requirement is to be able to easily replicate a standard 3 or 4 page content layout (modules as well as articles), but for which the actual content can be different on each subsite.

I need the subsite urls to remain as https://slave.mainsite.com and not revert to https://mainsite.com/slave as it would with a subdomain redirect in cpanel.

How many sites is too many? I’m anticipating up to 50 subdomains at any one time. I also plan to use rsform pro on each subsite to facilitate an independent file upload option. I guess my question is, at what point does a database become unmanageable, and independent databases for subsites is better?

I’m assuming there is no reason why it is not possible to initiate front end editing functions for each subsite (editor level user only) independently for each subsite’s article content?

How easy is it to remove a subsite and its database and file content once it is no longer required? Are there tools for that, or does that have to be done directly at the database?

I assume only the main site, on which the component sites, can be replicated? You can’t replicate a pre-existing subsite to become another independent subsite?

Many thanks for your help - looking forward to hearing from you.

Please check this case study, you can have single Joomla website which is loaded via multiple domains:

https://alterbrains.com/joomla-extensio ... or-modules

Each landing page (subdomain homepage) will be a menu item of content article type with own modules, next this menu item is forced as a default menu item for a slave site (subdomain).

I need the subsite urls to remain as https://slave.mainsite.com and not revert to https://mainsite.com/slave as it would with a subdomain redirect in cpanel.

Slave site homepage will be like https://slave.mainsite.com, cpanel's subdomain should use same documents folder as master site, redirect should be disabled.

How many sites is too many? I’m anticipating up to 50 subdomains at any one time. I also plan to use rsform pro on each subsite to facilitate an independent file upload option. No need for separate database per site in this case, you can have single Joomla installation.

Possible: each domain user should have own usergroup, next site-specific article is allowed for editing for this usergroup only.

How easy is it to remove a subsite and its database and file content once it is no longer required? Are there tools for that, or does that have to be done directly at the database?

You can delete slave site in MightySites, next delete its menu item, article and modules in Joomla as usual.

I assume only the main site, on which the component sites, can be replicated? You can’t replicate a pre-existing subsite to become another independent subsite?

You can, but it's useless in your case because single Joomla installation can be used.
