Pre Sale Question: master site in subfolder / slaves across the site

Hi all

I'm the webmaster at www.uco.es, a public university in Spain. We have currently 49 joomla sites inside our web, but our top level page is not managed by a CMS

We would like to have a master site like www.uco.es/xxx/yyy and a number or slave sites like
www.uco.es/zzz/aaa with different sharing levels, but at least with the core files and common components maintained from a central location.

In all the examples you cite, the master site is at top level. Would mighty sites solve a situation like this?

Better create a subdomain for master site like http://xxx.uco.es
In this case you can add slave sites http://xxx.uco.es/yyy (but not http://xxx.uco.es/yyy/zzz)
