Re: Can I have this url?

No, it's impossible. Joomla requires at least single menu item alias to be presented.

Re: Categories, and Category Extensions

... also use Joomla tags and display articles not by category by a tag - each site can just have own tag and you will use 'Tags -> Tagged Items' menu item instead of 'Articles -> Category Blog'. But note that displaying same article in multiple domains is considered by Google as duplicate content.

Re: Compatibility with K2

Direct Alias works with menu item alias but not with any component directly.

Re: article ID

If a menu item is of 'Articles -> Single Article' type - it will display article by SEF URL without article ID even without our plugin.

Our plugin can just make URL shorter if this menu item has parent menu item.

Re: article ID

If a menu item goes to an article, then using the Direct Alias for that menu item would, in effect, take the user to that article, and that page could be accessed without the article ID, couldn't it?

At least it seems to work that way on my new site.

Re: new installation setup

Install and publish 'System - Direct Alias' plugin, next find a Direct/Relative switcher next to 'Alias' field of menu item.

Re: specific category for each site

Assign all site-specific articles into single category, i.e. 'Site A News'.

Next in Site A create a new menu item 'Category Blog' type and configure it to display articles from this category.
