... to share articles only, so each site will be able to have different menu items but you will be able to edit all articles from main site. In case of sharing articles and using separate database for each site please ensure that MySLQ user of subsite has access to database of main site.

... can be animated by just uploading avatar in phpBB UCP. Thanks, I figured something like that :/ it's to bad jomsocial don't use them. But in case they allow use of gifs, would p8pbb be able to handle it just like all other avatars without upgrade?

No matter if you have 10 sites in one database or 10 databases - performance is same.
Who told you about SEO and databases?! Better change such SEO specialist , SEO is not related to database in any case, no one search engine knows the details of your databases.

Great! So in the instance of restoring a slave site, the akeeba archive would be placed in the root directory and then extracted? (Again, speaking of the case where a slave site is installed in the Joomla installation of the master site but with a mostly different database).
